GATT Secretariat

The GATT Secretariat was the administrative body responsible for supporting the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) from 1947 until 1995. Its role was to facilitate negotiations among countries, monitor trade agreements, and provide information and technical assistance to promote fair international trade practices. The Secretariat did not set policies or resolve disputes directly but served as a neutral support center to help countries implement trade rules. After 1995, its functions were incorporated into the World Trade Organization (WTO), which now oversees global trade rules.
