Gath
Gath was an ancient city located in Canaan, known from biblical and archaeological sources. It was a major Philistine stronghold during the 12th to 7th centuries BCE, serving as one of the five principal cities of the Philistine pentapolis. Gath is notably associated with the biblical figure Goliath, who was said to come from there. The city was strategically positioned near important trade routes and controlled significant territory, making it a key player in regional politics and conflicts of its time. Today, archaeological excavations have uncovered remnants that help us understand its historical significance.
