Gammaretrovirus

Gammaretroviruses are a group of viruses that belong to the Retroviridae family, characterized by their RNA genomes and ability to integrate into the DNA of host cells. They can infect animals, including humans, and are known to cause certain cancers and immune system issues in some species. These viruses replicate by reverse transcription—converting their RNA into DNA inside the host cell—allowing them to persist and sometimes disrupt normal cell functions. While some gammaretroviruses are pathogenic, others are harmless or even integrated into the genomes of their hosts without causing disease.
