Gamma-Tubulin
Gamma-tubulin is a specialized protein that plays a crucial role in cell division by helping to organize the microtubules—tiny fibers that form the cell’s skeleton and are essential for chromosome movement. It is primarily found in structures called the centrosome, acting as a foundation or nucleation site where microtubules grow from. This ensures proper formation of the mitotic spindle, which is vital for accurate separation of genetic material during cell division. Without gamma-tubulin, cells would struggle to divide correctly, leading to potential genetic abnormalities or cell malfunction.
