Gallia Cisalpina

Gallia Cisalpina, meaning "Gaul on this side of the Alps," was a region of northern Italy inhabited by Celtic tribes before Roman conquest. Located south of the Alps, it included areas like modern-day northern Italy and parts of Switzerland. During the Roman Republic and Empire, it became a crucial frontier zone, strategically important and heavily Romanized through military conquest and settlement. Over time, Gallia Cisalpina integrated into the Roman system, contributing to Italy's economic and cultural development, and played a significant role in Rome's expansion into northern Europe.
