Gal Vihara

Gal Vihara is a renowned rock temple located in Sri Lanka's ancient city of Polonnaruwa. It features four impressive Buddha statues carved directly into a large granite stone face, showcasing expert craftsmanship and artistry from the 12th century. The statues represent different poses: a seated meditation, a standing figure, and two reclining Buddhas symbolizing his parinirvana (final nirvana).
