Gajapati Kingdom
The Gajapati Kingdom was an ancient Indian kingdom located in present-day Odisha, established around the 15th century. It was known for its strong Jain and later Hindu rulers, and for being a major center of culture, religion, and politics in eastern India. The kingdom’s name reflects its rulers’ association with elephants ("Gaja" means elephant), symbolizing strength. Gajapati rulers supported art, architecture, and religious traditions, including the famous Jagannath Temple in Puri. Though the kingdom declined over time, its legacy influences Odisha's cultural identity and religious practices today.
