GAF (Global Assessment of Functioning)

The Global Assessment of Functioning (GAF) is a scale used by mental health professionals to rate a person's overall psychological, social, and occupational functioning on a scale from 1 to 100. Higher scores indicate better functioning and fewer symptoms, while lower scores suggest more severe difficulties affecting daily life. It helps clinicians assess the level of mental health impairment, track changes over time, and inform treatment planning. GAF provides a snapshot of how well someone is managing life’s demands and challenges at a given point.
