Gadolinium Neutron Capture Therapy
Gadolinium Neutron Capture Therapy (Gd-NCT) is an experimental cancer treatment that uses a special form of gadolinium, a metal, to target tumor cells. The patient receives a gadolinium solution that accumulates in the tumor. When the tumor site is exposed to a controlled neutron beam, the gadolinium atoms capture neutrons and undergo a reaction that produces high-energy particles. These particles specifically destroy the cancer cells while minimizing damage to surrounding healthy tissue. This targeted approach aims to improve treatment effectiveness and reduce side effects compared to traditional therapies.
