Furtwangler Glacier
Furtwangler Glacier is a large, slowly moving mass of ice located in the eastern part of Antarctica. It forms where snow and ice accumulate over time, flowing outward due to gravity. As one of the continent's major glaciers, it helps shape the landscape and plays a significant role in Earth’s climate system by storing vast amounts of freshwater. The glacier’s ice gradually melts and calves into the ocean, contributing to global sea level. Because of climate change, many glaciers, including Furtwangler, are experiencing increased melting and retreat, impacting global sea levels and ecosystems.
