Furlough
A furlough is a temporary unpaid leave from work, typically implemented by employers during periods of reduced business activity or financial hardship. Employees remain employed and may retain certain benefits, but they do not work or receive pay during the furlough period. It’s different from layoffs because employees are expected to return to their jobs once the furlough ends. Employers might use furloughs to cut costs while maintaining their workforce, allowing for a quicker restart once conditions improve.
