Fungal resistance

Fungal resistance occurs when fungi, the microorganisms that cause infections, change in ways that make antifungal medications less effective. This often happens when fungi are exposed repeatedly to these drugs, allowing resistant strains to develop and survive treatment. As a result, infections become harder to treat and may require stronger or different medications. Resistance is a natural process, but overuse or inappropriate use of antifungals accelerates it. Monitoring and prudent use of antifungals are essential to slowing resistance and ensuring treatments remain effective.
