Fungal Keratitis

Fungal keratitis is an infection of the cornea, the clear front surface of the eye, caused by fungi. It often occurs after eye injuries, especially with plant material, or in people with weakened immune systems. Symptoms include redness, pain, blurred vision, and light sensitivity. This condition can lead to serious complications if not treated promptly, possibly resulting in vision loss. Treatment typically involves antifungal medications and sometimes surgery. Prevention includes proper eye care, especially during activities that pose a risk for eye injury, such as gardening or working with soil.
