Functional Hypothalamic Amenorrhea
Functional Hypothalamic Amenorrhea (FHA) is a condition where the menstrual cycle stops due to the brain's hypothalamus not releasing enough hormones needed for ovulation and menstruation. Often caused by stress, excessive exercise, or inadequate nutrition, it’s not due to physical damage but a reversible response to these factors. The hypothalamus detects the body's stress or energy deficiency and suppresses reproductive hormones to conserve energy, leading to missed periods. Restoring proper nutrition, managing stress, and reducing strenuous activity typically help restart normal menstrual function.
