Fucus

Fucus is a genus of brown algae commonly found along rocky coastlines in Europe, North America, and other regions. Often called rockweed, it attaches to rocks using a holdfast and has a frilly, leaf-like appearance. Fucus plays an important role in coastal ecosystems by providing habitat and food for marine animals. It also contains natural compounds used in cosmetics and as dietary supplements due to their nutritional and antioxidant properties. Fucus reproduces through specialized structures called conceptacles that release spores and gametes, enabling it to spread and form new populations in intertidal zones.
