Frozen Section

A frozen section is a rapid lab procedure used during surgery to examine tissue tissue samples immediately. A small piece of tissue removed from the patient is quickly frozen, sliced into thin sections, and stained for microscopic examination. A pathologist then looks at these samples under a microscope to help determine if the tissue is cancerous or benign.
