Fringes

In physics, fringes refer to the bright and dark patterns that appear when light waves overlap and interfere with each other. When two or more waves meet, they can reinforce each other (constructive interference) creating bright fringes, or cancel each other out (destructive interference) creating dark fringes. This pattern occurs in experiments like the double-slit experiment, revealing the wave nature of light or other waves. Fringes demonstrate how waves interact, and their spacing and shape can provide information about the properties of the light or other wave phenomena involved.
