Fried Frailty Criteria

The Fried Frailty Criteria is a way doctors assess if an older person is physically frail, meaning more vulnerable to health problems. It looks at five areas: unintentional weight loss, feeling very tired, weakness (like grip strength), slow walking speed, and low physical activity. If someone has issues in three or more areas, they’re considered frail; one or two signs indicate pre-frailty. This helps healthcare providers identify those at higher risk of falls, hospitalization, or disability, so they can plan appropriate care to maintain independence and improve quality of life.
