Frente Sandinista de Liberación Nacional (FSLN)

The Frente Sandinista de Liberación Nacional (FSLN) is a political and revolutionary movement in Nicaragua founded in 1961, named after Sandino, a Nicaraguan hero. Its goal is to promote social justice, sovereignty, and democratic reforms. The FSLN led a successful revolution in 1979 that overthrew the authoritarian Somoza dictatorship, establishing a government focused on social programs and economic reforms. Originally Marxist-inspired, it has evolved into a major political party, currently led by President Daniel Ortega. The FSLN's history reflects efforts to address inequality and promote national independence, though its rule has also faced criticism for authoritarian tendencies.
