French Southern Lands (TAAF)
The French Southern Lands (TAAF) are a group of remote territories administered by France, located in the southern Indian Ocean and Antarctic region. They include islands such as Kerguelen, Crozet, and Amsterdam, as well as Adélie Land in Antarctica. These largely uninhabited or sparsely populated areas serve scientific research and conservation purposes, especially for wildlife like penguins, seals, and seabirds. The territories are governed by France but have limited local administration. Their extreme climates and isolation make them important for studying climate change, marine ecosystems, and Antarctic research.
