French aristocracy

French aristocracy was a privileged social class that held power, land, and titles historically passed down through generations. They occupied the upper echelons of society, often serving as nobles, landowners, and court officials. The aristocracy enjoyed special privileges, such as exemption from certain taxes and exclusive access to high-ranking positions. Their influence was central to France's political, economic, and cultural life until the revolution of 1789, which challenged and ultimately dismantled many of their privileges and societal roles. Today, the aristocracy is largely ceremonial, with noble titles recognized but without official power.
