FRELIMO (Movement for the Liberation of Mozambique)

FRELIMO (the Movement for the Liberation of Mozambique) is a political organization founded in 1962 that fought to end Portuguese colonial rule in Mozambique. It started as a liberation movement and, after independence was achieved in 1975, became Mozambique's ruling political party. FRELIMO advocates for social and economic development, national sovereignty, and social justice. Throughout its history, it has navigated internal conflicts and political changes while shaping Mozambique’s path toward independence and post-colonial governance. It remains a key political force in Mozambique today.
