Freedom Rider
Freedom Riders were civil rights activists in the 1960s who challenged racial segregation on interstate buses and in bus terminals across the U.S. They traveled together on integrated groups, knowing they risked violence and arrest. Their goal was to test and enforce Supreme Court rulings that declared segregation unconstitutional in these public spaces. Their courageous efforts drew national attention to racial inequalities and helped accelerate the movement toward desegregation and equal rights.
