Freedom of the Seas

Freedom of the seas is a legal principle that allows ships to navigate international waters without interference from any nation's government. It means that, outside territorial waters (usually 12 nautical miles from a country’s coast), ships can travel peacefully and conduct activities like trade, exploration, and passage without restrictions. This principle promotes global commerce and cooperation, ensuring that no single nation can claim exclusive control over international waters. However, it also involves international agreements that regulate safety, environment, and security to maintain freedom and order at sea.
