Free Tissue Transfer

Free tissue transfer is a surgical procedure where a surgeon removes healthy tissue—such as skin, muscle, or bone—from one part of the body and transplant it to another area needing reconstruction. The transferred tissue is completely detached, along with its blood vessels, and then reconnected to blood vessels at the recipient site under a microscope. This restores blood flow, ensuring the tissue survives in the new location. It’s commonly used to repair complex wounds, tumors, or injuries, helping restore function and appearance with minimal impact on the donor site.
