Free-kick

A free-kick in soccer is awarded when a player commits a foul or rule infringement. It allows the fouled team to restart play from the spot where the foul occurred without opposition interference within a certain distance. Depending on the situation, the free-kick can be 'direct' (shot straight at goal) or 'indirect' (requires another player to touch the ball before a goal can be scored). Free-kicks are strategic moments that can create scoring chances. The opposing team must stay at least 10 yards away during the kick, giving the attacking team space to execute their play.
