Free Flap
A free flap is a surgical procedure used to repair complex tissue damage, such as severe burns or injuries. It involves removing healthy tissue—including skin, muscle, and blood vessels—from one part of the body (donor site) and transplanting it to the damaged area (recipient site). Surgeons reconnect the blood vessels under a microscope to ensure proper blood flow, which is vital for the tissue's survival. This technique allows for the reconstruction of large or complicated wounds, restoring function and appearance when other methods are insufficient.
