Frederick V of the Palatinate

Frederick V of the Palatinate was a German nobleman and Elector during the early 17th century, known for briefly ruling a significant part of the Holy Roman Empire. He became King of Bohemia in 1619 but his reign triggered the Thirty Years' War, a major European conflict. His decision to accept the Bohemian crown led to political and religious turmoil, ultimately culminating in his defeat and exile. Despite this, he is remembered as a symbol of Protestant resistance during a tumultuous period marked by religious conflicts and shifting alliances within Europe.
