Frederick I of Sweden

Frederick I of Sweden (1700–1751) was King from 1720 until his death, during a period called the Age of Liberty—a time characterized by increased parliamentary power and reduced royal authority. Originally a Danish prince, he became Swedish king through marriage and political alliance. His reign saw limited royal influence, with much decision-making handled by the Swedish Parliament (Riksdag). Frederick was known for maintaining stability and navigating a period of significant political change, balancing power between the monarchy and emerging parliamentary institutions. His rule laid groundwork for constitutional developments in Sweden’s governance.
