Franz Joseph Gall's publications

Franz Joseph Gall was a 19th-century neuroanologist who believed that the brain is made up of different areas responsible for specific character traits and abilities. His key publication, "The Anatomy of the Nervous System," outlined his idea that these areas are located in distinct regions of the brain. He proposed that by examining the bumps and shape of a person’s skull, one could infer their personality and mental capacities—a method called phrenology. While his specific ideas about localized brain functions were influential, modern neuroscience has shown that the brain's functions are more complex and not solely determined by skull shape.
