Frankokratia
Frankokratia, meaning "rule of the Franks," refers to the period between the 13th and 15th centuries when Western European (primarily French and Venetian) powers controlled parts of Greece after the Latin Crusaders overthrew the Byzantine Empire’s territory. This era saw Western European customs, laws, and influences influence Greek lands, leading to changes in governance, architecture, and culture. It was marked by the presence of Latin rulers and the decline of Byzantine authority, lasting until the Ottoman Turks took control in the mid-15th century.
