Frankish nobility
Frankish nobility comprised the aristocratic class in early medieval Gaul, especially during the Merovingian and Carolingian periods. They held land granted by the king or inherited through family, serving as local rulers and military leaders. Nobles often governed regions called "counties" or "duchies," collected taxes, and offered military service to the king. Their status was based on land ownership, family lineage, and loyalty, forming the backbone of Frankish political and social organization. Nobility roles also involved participating in court affairs and advising rulers, maintaining a hierarchical structure that upheld stability and governance in the Frankish realms.
