The Frank-Starling law describes how the heart adjusts its pumping strength based on how much blood returns to it. When more blood fills the heart (called preload), the heart muscle stretches more, which enables it to contract more forcefully and pump out a greater amount of blood. Conversely, if less blood returns, the heart contracts less forcefully. This mechanism helps maintain a balanced circulation, matching the amount of blood the heart receives with the amount it pumps out, ensuring efficient blood flow throughout the body.
