Francisco Vázquez de Coronado

Francisco Vázquez de Coronado was a Spanish explorer in the early 16th century known for leading an expedition across present-day southwestern United States in 1540-1542. His goal was to find the legendary Seven Cities of Gold, which he believed existed in the region. During his journey, Coronado explored parts of modern-day Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas, mapping the landscape and establishing Spanish presence. Although he did not find gold, his expedition expanded European knowledge of North America and paved the way for future exploration and colonization efforts.
