Frances M. Collins

Francis S. Collins is an American scientist and physician who is known for discovering the genetic basis of many diseases. He led the Human Genome Project, which mapped all the genes in human DNA, a groundbreaking achievement in understanding human biology. In 2009, he became the director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), overseeing biomedical research in the U.S. to improve health and find better treatments. Collins is respected for his scientific expertise and his ability to communicate complex science to the public, as well as his advocacy for ethics and inclusion in research.
