Frances C. Sumner

Frances C. Sumner was a pioneering African American psychologist and educator known for her leadership in promoting higher education for Black students. She served as the first African American woman to earn a Ph.D. in psychology in the United States. Sumner was dedicated to advancing psychological research, teaching, and advocating for diversity in academia, helping break barriers for minorities in higher education and psychology.
