Foveal vision

Foveal vision refers to the part of your vision where you see the sharpest and most detailed image. It is centered in the retina called the fovea, which is a small area packed with tightly clustered cone cells responsible for color and fine detail. When you look directly at an object, your gaze directs light to the fovea, allowing you to see intricate features clearly—like reading text or recognizing faces. Outside the fovea, vision becomes less sharp and more focused on peripheral awareness, which helps detect movement and broader scenes but with less detail.
