Fourth Wall
The "Fourth Wall" refers to the imaginary barrier between a performance—such as movies, TV shows, or theater—and the audience. When characters acknowledge or address the audience directly, they are breaking the Fourth Wall. This technique creates a sense of intimacy or humor by reminding viewers that what they’re watching is a constructed story. In traditional storytelling, characters act as if the audience isn’t there, but breaking the Fourth Wall involves them intentionally acknowledging the viewer's presence. It’s a device used to add humor, insight, or commentary, making the audience feel more involved.
