Four Stages of Anticipatory Grief

The four stages of anticipatory grief describe how people emotionally process the impending loss of a loved one. First, denial helps a person accept the reality slowly, often with disbelief. Second, anger may emerge, feeling frustration or resentment about the situation. Third, bargaining involves trying to regain control, often making promises or hoping for a different outcome. Lastly, acceptance brings a sense of coming to terms with the reality, allowing the individual to begin coping and preparing emotionally for the loss. These stages are not always linear and can occur repeatedly, reflecting the complex emotional journey during a loved one's decline.
