Foucault's theory of discourse

Foucault's theory of discourse refers to the way language, knowledge, and power shape our understanding of the world and ourselves. Discourse includes the words, ideas, and practices that form social norms and truths. It influences what is considered true or false, normal or abnormal, by defining how topics are discussed and who has authority to speak. In essence, discourse shapes our realities by controlling how knowledge is constructed, shared, and maintained in society, often reinforcing power structures without necessarily being overtly political.
