Foucault's Discourse Theory
Foucault's Discourse Theory suggests that our understanding of truth, knowledge, and power is shaped by language, ideas, and social practices—collectively called "discourse." These discourses influence what is considered normal, acceptable, or true within a society. They are not just words but systems that define and limit our ways of thinking and acting. Power is exercised through these discourses, shaping institutions, behaviors, and beliefs subtly and continuously. Essentially, Foucault shows that knowledge and power are interconnected, and that our perceptions of reality are constructed through the prevailing discourses at any given time.
