Fort Spokane
Fort Spokane was a military installation established in 1880 near the Spokane River in eastern Washington. It served as a strategic outpost for the U.S. Army, primarily to protect settlers and enforce U.S. policies toward Native American tribes, particularly during the period of westward expansion. The fort also played a role in the detention and control of Native peoples, including sitting Native American tribes at nearby reservations. Closed in 1908, the site later became a state park, offering historical insights and recreational opportunities, and remains a significant landmark in the region's history.
