Fort Ord
Fort Ord was a U.S. Army training base located on California’s Central Coast, operational from 1917 until its closure in 1994. It served as a primary training ground for soldiers and contributed to military preparedness during multiple wars, including World War II and the Vietnam War. The base covered over 45,000 acres and included training fields, housing, and military facilities. After its closure, efforts have been made to clean up environmental contamination, and much of the land has been converted into public spaces and a national monument, supporting recreation, education, and community development.
