Fort Ancient State Memorial
Fort Ancient State Memorial is an ancient Native American earthwork site located in Ohio, built by the Mississippian culture around 1000-1650 AD. Spanning about 2.5 miles, it features a series of earthen enclosures, circular and rectangular layouts, and large mounds thought to have held religious, ceremonial, or social significance. It served as a gathering place for trade, rituals, and community events. Today, it’s preserved as a state historic site, offering visitors insight into the complex societies that once thrived in North America long before European contact.
