Forgetting curve theory
The forgetting curve theory, developed by Hermann Ebbinghaus, describes how our ability to remember information declines over time without reinforcement. Initially, we tend to forget a large portion of new learning shortly after acquiring it. However, with repeated review or practice, the rate of forgetting slows down, helping us retain information longer. Essentially, the curve shows that memory fades quickly at first but then stabilizes, emphasizing the importance of reinforcement and review to maintain knowledge over time.
