Foreign Investment Risk Review Modernization Act

The Foreign Investment Risk Review Modernization Act (FIRRMA) updated U.S. laws to strengthen the government’s ability to review and potentially block foreign investments that could threaten national security. It expanded the scope of the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS), allowing it to scrutinize more types of transactions and investee companies, especially in critical technology, infrastructure, and sensitive industries. The goal is to prevent foreign entities from gaining control or influence that could compromise U.S. security, while still enabling beneficial foreign investment.
