Foreign body aspiration
Foreign body aspiration occurs when an object, such as food or small items, accidentally enters the airway (trachea or bronchi) instead of the digestive tract. This can block airflow, leading to difficulty breathing, coughing, or choking. It is most common in children and adults who have swallowing problems or impaired consciousness. Prompt removal of the object is crucial to restore breathing and prevent complications like infections or lung damage. If someone is suspected of choking or has difficulty breathing, emergency medical help should be sought immediately.
