Fore language

Fore is a language spoken by the Fore people of Papua New Guinea, primarily in the Madang Province. It belongs to the Oceanic branch of the Austronesian language family. The Fore language is notable for its role in ethnolinguistic studies, especially related to Kuru, a neurological disease caused by ritualistic cannibalism historically practiced by the Fore. Today, the language remains a vital aspect of Fore identity, though many speakers also use Tok Pisin and English due to regional and national influences. It is part of efforts to preserve the cultural heritage and linguistic diversity of Papua New Guinea’s many indigenous communities.
