Football League First Division

The Football League First Division was the top tier of English professional football from 1888 until 1992, when it was restructured into the Premier League. It comprised the best football clubs in England competing annually for the championship title. Teams play each other twice over the season, earning points for wins and draws. The club with the most points at the end becomes the champion. Typically, the season also involves relegation and promotion, where the lowest-ranked teams are moved to lower divisions, and top teams from lower divisions move up to compete at the highest level.
