Food-Induced Anaphylaxis

Food-induced anaphylaxis is a severe allergic reaction that occurs quickly after consuming certain foods, commonly peanuts, tree nuts, shellfish, fish, eggs, and milk. When someone with a food allergy eats these foods, their immune system mistakenly attacks them, leading to symptoms like difficulty breathing, swelling, hives, and a rapid drop in blood pressure. This reaction can be life-threatening and requires immediate medical attention. Epinephrine (an adrenaline injection) is the first-line treatment and can be lifesaving. Understanding triggers and having an emergency plan is crucial for those at risk.
